死囚牢里来了个又高又瘦的医生，让他照抄纸上的六个图案，又问他一句老话什么意思——这其实是判断他是不是 without remorse（毫无悔意）的测试，答不好就可能被判死。他回一句「手里有好东西，为什么 let go of（松手、放弃）」。想听懂庭审里的心理评估，这两个说法很关键。

在死刑案里，检方要弄清被告是不是 without remorse（毫无悔意），就派精神科医生进牢房：霍尔布鲁克和格里格森这两个人反复出现，人称 Killer Shrinks（心理医生）。那天是报税日，看守把兰德尔叫出去，来了个又高又瘦、像鸵鸟的家伙；他掏出画了六个图案的纸，叫兰德尔照抄，又问他「滚石不生苔」「一鸟在手胜过双鸟在林」是什么意思。兰德尔照原样抄好，也认真解释，可对方听完只是摇头，二十分钟就走了。想描述命令、测试和放弃，order someone to、stand still、let go of 都能用上。
A1–C2 是欧标等级。点一个等级后，比它高的卡片会变淡，播放到那里不会自动暂停。

然后进来一个特别高、长得像鸵鸟的家伙。
不说医生多威严，只用一个荒诞比喻，把压迫感变成了画面。
here come/comes + 名词（口语倒装）
描述某人登场、带点调侃时用；正式叙述改用 here comes。

口语
here 重读，ostrich-looking 连成一串，dude 轻收。
And here comes this tiny dog with a huge attitude. 然后跑来一只特别小、脾气却特别大的狗。
“He slides this piece of paper across to me and he hands me a pencil.”
他把这张纸推到我面前，又递给我一支铅笔。
两个动作接得干净利落，把一次「测试」说得像场随便的交易。

描述把东西推给对方时用；动作干脆，适合讲故事。
He pushed the form over to me. ／ She slid the keys across the counter.
中性
slides 和 hands 两个动词都重读，中间稍顿。
He slid the contract across to me and handed me a pen. 他把合同推到我面前，递过来一支笔。
“He said, "Just do whatever you think you want to do."”
他说：“你想怎么做就怎么做。”
一句听上去宽容的话，放在测试里反而最让人摸不着底。
do whatever you think you want to do
把选择权完全交给对方时用；也可能是懒得管、不想负责。
Do it however you like. ／ It's entirely up to you.
口语
whatever 重读，两个 you 轻读，句尾放平。

三连问一句比一句急，把面对荒谬测试时的错愕全倒出来。

三句都上扬，kidding 和 joke 重读，越问越急。

“"If he keeps moving around, it's hard to get close to him."”
他要是总在四处奔波，别人就很难靠近他。
把一句老谚语讲成大白话，既是解释，也像在说他自己。
If someone keeps doing X, it's hard to Y.
用条件句解释因果时用；谈感情、谈处境都合适。
If you never settle down, people can't reach you. ／ Keep moving and nobody gets close.
中性
keeps 和 hard 重读，条件句前半上扬。
If he keeps moving around, it's hard to keep the friendship alive. 他要是一直搬来搬去，这份友情就很难维持。
“"It doesn't make sense. You've got something good, why let go of it?”
这说不通。你已经有了好东西，为什么要放手？
先把道理说死，再抛出反问，把「别放手」讲得无法反驳。
You've got something good, why let go of it?
劝人别丢掉手上的好东西时用；反问语气很直接。
Why throw away what already works? ／ Don't trade a sure thing for a maybe.

doesn't 重读，why 上扬，let go of it 连读。

我们聊了总共也就十五、二十分钟。
用一句轻描淡写的时间统计，反衬出这场测试决定了生死。
Total time ..., maybe + 时间.
想强调某件事其实很仓促时用；后面常接一个大概数字。
All in all, maybe twenty minutes. ／ The whole thing lasted about fifteen minutes.
中性
Total time 稍顿，15, 20 两个数字都重读，句尾下沉。
Total time they interviewed me, maybe ten minutes. 他们面试我总共也就十分钟。

用 let go of。片里解释谚语时说 You've got something good, why let go of it，就是「你已经有了好东西，为什么放手」。手里攥着的东西松开也叫 let go of。
用 order someone to。片里说法院 ordered me to talk to him，就是「法院命令我去跟他谈」。上司硬性要求你做什么，也可以用 order someone to。
shrink 是「心理医生」的口语说法，Killer Shrinks 就是「杀手心理医生」，指那两个总在死刑案里出场、专把被告说成危险人格的精神科医生。
用 stand still。片里解释谚语时提到 a person that doesn't stand still long enough，就是「一个总不肯停下来的人」，所以别人很难靠近他。
