说 got the better of me，常用来讲某种情绪或好奇心压过了自己。比如 My curiosity got the better of me 就是「我忍不住想弄明白」。
指一个人或一件事彻底垮掉、撑不住。戏里托尼以为自己那几句会让对方 fall apart，结果对方并没有像他设想的那样崩溃。
在夸张或开玩笑地自称什么之后补一句，意思接近「打个比方、别当真」。戏里托尼自称大人物，马上用这句话把话收回。
用 bring down，宾语常是政府、政权或企业。戏里托尼开玩笑说自己去伦敦是要 bring down the Government（搞垮政府）。
