Mirabel, the one Madrigal child with no Gift, sings a tour of her family for the village children. She runs through their powers, teases her sister behind her hand — "Between you and me, she's kind of a prima donna" — and admits that she is the one who never got a Gift.
❝ Monólogo · 13 frases Family roll call, opening verse
She maps the house like a sky of stars, then hands the keys to Abuela in the same breath.
Mirabel Says She Is Special Too
The film opens with Mirabel running through the town, introducing the audience to her family. Each Madrigal has a magical Gift: her aunt Pepa's mood controls the weather, her cousin Dolores can hear everything, her father is accident-prone, and her sisters are perfect. Mirabel, who has no Gift, sings the tour herself.
The opening number does two jobs at once. It is a cheerful tour of a big, gifted family, and it is also the place where Mirabel quietly tells us her own wound. She lists everyone else's Gifts in a rush of affection and envy, and then, when a child asks about hers, she cannot answer. The song even lets her get a small mean joke in, "Between you and me, she's kind of a prima donna," which shows she is sharp and not simply saintly. The line that lands hardest is the one she throws at the kids near the end: "the truth is, Gift or no Gift, I am just as special as the rest of my family." Because she has to say it out loud, the audience hears the doubt underneath it. The whole town's happiness is the backdrop against which her being different becomes the thing the film is about.

Siguiente · 03step asideLa escena: Mirabel Told to Step AsideThe opening establishes that she is the one Madrigal child whose ceremony failed, so unlike the rest of her family she has no magical power.
Pepa's moods control the weather, Julieta heals with food, Bruno sees the future, Luisa is super strong, Isabela grows flowers, Dolores hears everything, and Camilo can shapeshift.
They have heard about the family's magic but not about her, so they press her with questions she cannot happily answer.
It is the family name, repeated as a chorus: the song is Mirabel introducing the Madrigals and their miracle to the audience.
