The whole family gathers as Abuela gives the speech that opens every Gift ceremony, recalling the miracle that saved them and asking the night's child to earn it. "Will you use your Gift to honor our miracle?" she asks, and Antonio, nervous, has to be walked to his door.
❝ Monólogo · 16 frases Abuela's Speech Before Antonio's Ceremony
On the night of Antonio's Gift ceremony, the Madrigals gather in the courtyard. Abuela tells the story of the miracle: how the candle saved the family fifty years ago and how each child must use their Gift to serve the community. Antonio is nervous and needs Mirabel beside him, but he walks to his door.
The scene is the family's founding ritual, and it works on the children as a kind of oath. Abuela frames the magic as something owed back, not simply enjoyed: the candle "blessed us with a miracle," and the family's honor is to serve the village with it. The ceremony then passes that debt to a five-year-old, asking him, "Will you use your Gift to honor our miracle?" That is why the night matters beyond the party. It is where every Madrigal is measured and where the pressure that shapes Mirabel, and later breaks her, is installed in the youngest child. Antonio's nerves, and his need for his sister, also quietly show that the ritual is more frightening than the family admits.
