right 后稍停，but 一带而过，expedient 重读收尾。

“Juries can sometimes be very stupid, and it's just as well not to worry them with more evidence than they can conveniently deal with.”
陪审团有时候很蠢，证据多得他们理不清反而添乱，不让他们操心倒也好。
把操纵陪审团说成替他们省心，一句冷话透着老练。

说某件事不做也罢、这样反而省事时用；对当事人或正式场合偏圆滑。

正式
very stupid 重读，just as well 连读，than 后一带而过。
It's just as well not to explain every detail to him. 不必把每个细节都跟他讲清楚，这样反倒好。
“Well, yes, but don't you see, Bob, that it might alter things a good deal in the minds of the jury if Hammond came to your house by invitation.”
话是这么说，可你想想，鲍勃，要是陪审团知道哈蒙德是你请到家里来的，他们的看法就可能大不一样。
一长句把风险层层铺开，重点落在陪审团心里那句。

要提醒对方一件事可能改变别人看法时用；对不熟的人这样反问会显得说教。

don't you see 轻快带过，a good deal 扬起，if 从句放慢。

“But that's impossible. You heard her say she'd had no communication with him for weeks before it happened.”
这不可能。你亲耳听她说，出事前几周她跟他没有任何联系。
拿对方亲耳听到的话去堵他，一句就把否认顶了回去。

用对方自己听过的话反驳他时用；语气偏硬，对长辈或客人要慎用。
You heard her yourself say she had not written. ／ You were right there when she said it.
口语
that's impossible 重读，she'd had 弱读，before it happened 收快。
You heard him say he'd never been there. 你亲耳听他说过他从没去过那儿。
“Nonsense. We're having the party, and you're going to stay.”
胡说。宴会照办，你也得留下。
两个字推翻所有商量，把女主人的主意钉死。

熟人之间打断无谓争论、直接拍板时用；对上级或正式场合会显唐突。

口语
Nonsense 干脆重读，we're having 连读，you're going to 弱读成 gonna。

可以说 as a matter of fact，用来引出对方不知道或不太好开口的事。霍华德就是用它开场，把莱斯利写过信这件事告诉了鲍勃。
可以说 put the matter out of your mind，意思是「把某事彻底放下、别再想」。霍华德让鲍勃别再为买信的事操心时，用的就是它。
常见两种：一是「弄到手、搞到」，如 get hold of that letter（把信弄到手）；二是「联系上某人」。戏里是第一种，指想办法把那封信弄过来。
