《后窗》开场是一通电话：摄影师杰夫还打着石膏，主编冈尼森打来，本想恭喜他拆石膏，结果发现记错了周。冈尼森提到杂志社要派人去克什米尔，那地方 The place is about to go up in smoke（那地方马上就要打起来了），可他不肯派带伤的杰夫，改派摩根或者兰伯特。杰夫不服，抱怨 I get myself half-killed for you（我为你差点把命搭上），又放话 If you don't pull me out of this swamp of boredom, I'm gonna do something drastic（你要是不把我从这无聊的烂泥潭里拉出来，我就干出点出格的事）。两人从拆石膏一路吵到结婚，杰夫甚至说 I'm gonna get married（我要结婚）。想学职场斗嘴、抱怨和放狠话，这通电话很完整。

get rid of。比如 get rid of that cast 就是「把那副石膏拆掉、摆脱它」，扔东西、改掉坏习惯都能用。
不是「杀了一半」，而是夸张说法，意思是「差点把命搭上」。I get myself half-killed for you 就是「我为你差点把命搭上」。
意思是「古板、一本正经、端着」。Stop sounding stuffy 就是「别一副老古板的腔调」，多用来嫌对方太严肃。
the next time，也可以说 next time。台词 have some good news the next time 就是「下次打电话最好带点好消息」。
