Where Dignity Goes to Die
No Name, No Home
Puss, down to his last life, takes shelter in Mama Luna's home for cats, where he is treated as an ordinary pet, renamed Pickles and made to use a litter box. He mocks his own fall, then meets Perrito, a dog posing as a cat who has no name or home.
The scene is about a legend learning to be nobody. Puss has gone from a fiesta in his honor to hiding in a house full of cats, renamed after a pickle, and his own comment says it best: "this is where dignity goes to die." But the film is not just making fun of him. Mama Luna's promise of a "forever home" is both a joke and a real offer of safety, and Puss cannot accept either. The turning point is Perrito, who introduces himself with the plain fact that he has no name and no home, and yet is cheerful. That contrast is the film's argument in miniature: the hero who had everything is miserable, while the little dog who has nothing is content.

Puss says it while looking at his new life of litter boxes and rules. It is his self-mocking way of saying this is the most humiliating place he has ended up.
He is a dog who pretends to be a cat to stay in the house. He tells Puss plainly that he has no name and no home, and asks for help fitting in.
He has gone from a celebrated hero to an ordinary pet being renamed and taught house rules, so even as she promises him a home, he treats the stay as a humiliation and wants out.
