Danny McBride Wants to Eat Them, explained

What happens

The group gets outside only to run into Danny McBride and a gang of survivors. He greets them warmly, says their timing couldn't be more perfect, then reveals why: he hasn't eaten in ages and the three of them look delicious. He's a cannibal, he explains, and he has Channing Tatum on a leash as his 'gimp.'

What's really going on

The chapter makes the apocalypse a monster-movie gag: the threat isn't demons exactly, it's Danny McBride being delighted to see old friends. He kills the relief of the reunion with one line — 'It's been a long time since any of us have eaten... and you three gentlemen look delicious' — then clarifies that he's a cannibal and there's nothing to discuss: 'I'd love to catch up, but we're fucking starving, so let's eat.' The comedy is in the whiplash between social niceties and the plain fact that they're food, and in the absurd detail of Channing Tatum kept as a pet — 'I call him Channing Tate-yum.' Two of them debate going back to save the one who created a diversion, and the escape only works because they don't.

Key lines & what they mean

“It's been a long time since any of us have eaten.”
The polite setup for the threat: framing starvation as small talk, right before revealing the group is on the menu.
“I'm a cannibal, hombre. We're gonna fucking eat your ass.”
He drops the pleasantries: he's a cannibal, and the conversation is over — this is a threat, not a negotiation.
“I'd love to catch up, but we're fucking starving, so let's eat.”
The line that mixes manners with hunger: he'd enjoy the reunion, but appetite comes first, so they should get to eating them.
“That's fucking crazy and your timing couldn't be more perfect.”
His cheerful greeting: the survivors' arrival is unbelievable and comes at exactly the right moment — for him and his appetite.

Theme

  • Survival — Old friends become predators, and the group survives the reunion only by running and leaving one of their own behind.
  • Dark humor — The end of the world is played as a joke about hospitality, with a cannibal politely offering to 'catch up' before eating his guests.

It means to run away quickly, especially while you have the chance. Here one of them says the others should do it while he distracts the cannibals.
