Todd Treats Walter to Cinnabon
❝ Monologue · 4 lines Todd Sees a Different Walter
Walter lands back home only to learn he has made the watch list and gets held for questioning about how he reached Afghanistan. Todd, the eHarmony rep, is waiting for him with a hug and takes him for a Cinnabon. They talk about Cheryl, who never answered a single wink, and Todd tells Walter he is nothing like the man he had imagined.
The chapter is the film's most ordinary scene and one of its warmest. Walter has crossed mountains and oceans, and he comes home to a snack counter and a customer-service rep who treats the whole thing as a story to hear over a pastry. The comedy is in the contrast: border guards, a travel ban, and a Cinnabon, all in the same afternoon. Todd's running commentary carries the scene, from his joke that the pastry is "frosted heroin" to his verdict that Cheryl is a choosy lady. But the line that matters is quieter: "You are so not how I pictured you." The man who felt invisible has been seen by someone — a stranger, no less — and the film treats that as a small reward.

Formal
“How did you get to Afghanistan? There's a travel ban.”
The question comes first, the rule second, and the pressure of an interrogation is set.
Formal
“That's frosted heroin. That's what you're eating, my friend.”
An outrageous metaphor for a pastry, so over the top it becomes the scene's funniest line.
Informal
“You have a lot on your plate.”
Turning stress into food on a plate makes the sympathy feel warm and matter-of-fact.
Neutral
“You are so not how I pictured you.”
The casual so not stresses the gap between expectation and reality in one breath.
Informal
I pictured you as a little gray piece of paper. But now I see you... and it's like Indiana Jones... decided to become the lead singer of The Strokes or something like that.

Todd is the eHarmony representative who handled Walter's dating profile. He shows up at the airport to meet Walter and takes him for a Cinnabon so they can talk.
He notes that Cheryl never answered a single wink while she was on the site, and calls her a choosy lady. Walter does not disagree.
He says Walter is nothing like he pictured, not a gray little piece of paper but more like Indiana Jones who decided to front a rock band.
