Several people in Harry's orbit are being swapped out for someone newer, and the film keeps the sting light. "What can I say? I'm being replaced," one character shrugs after hearing the news. Elsewhere Harry is told to stop chasing Fay because she is already in love with someone else.

The Boy Who Never Learned to Love
A woman hears that her husband has found someone else — Fay Sexton — and jokes that she is being replaced. Harry, meanwhile, cannot reach Fay and is told to give up because she loves another man. Later, talking about his writing, Harry admits he cannot love, and compares himself to the boy in one of his own stories.
The scene is about the moment a person stops being the lead in their own life and becomes a footnote. "What can I say? I'm being replaced," is the line that names it, said lightly so it will not sound like a wound. Someone even offers the calm, mature line that "it doesn't have to be a nightmare if we're all just mature about it," while Harry behaves like the least mature person present, chasing Fay and calling her from the car. His self-description is funny and sad at once: "Because of my immaturity, I have a boyish quality that works." The joke is that being replaced sounds almost bearable until you watch who is saying it.

“what can I say? I'm being replaced.”
The passive voice makes her sound like an object being swapped out, and that is the cruelty.
Informal
“I count on you to really be critical, to really be tough.”
Asking to be criticized is rarer than asking for praise, and it shows what he wants from her.

“When he hit that home run, that was the only hint I've ever had that there may be a God.”
It measures faith in God against one swing of a bat, and the joke carries real tenderness.

Life sometimes takes very strange twists and turns, and we're not responsible for our feelings. You know, everybody's feelings are irrational. Yes, but to hear from your husband that he found another woman... He... He said his future is all mapped out. Oh. Jane... I'm going to be totally Frank with you and just try and hang on... what can I say? I'm being replaced. Yes, yes, but it doesn't have to be a nightmare if we're all just mature about it.

It means everything is already planned in advance. When a character says his future is all mapped out, he means his life is decided, with no room left for the person he is leaving.
A story about a boy who grows up unable to love is read back to him, and he agrees: he is that boy, which is why he warns people not to fall in love with him.
Hilly is Harry's young son. Harry says it is easy to love Hilly because a child asks nothing complicated of him, unlike women, whom he calls complicated.
