What happens
Emmet and Wyldstyle find Vitruvius, the old wizard, and report that the Piece of Resistance has been found. The prophecy seemed to name Wyldstyle as the Special, but Emmet is the one who actually found the piece. Vitruvius challenges Emmet to build a simple race car from parts, with no instructions, and Emmet can't manage it.
What's really going on
The scene sets up the movie's real question: what happens when the chosen one is nobody in particular. Everything here is a test of pedigree. Wyldstyle fits the prophecy on paper—talented, brilliant, important—yet the Piece chose the guy who can't build a car.
