H Confronts the Inside Man, explained

What happens

H comes to the man's apartment and asks how someone like him can afford it. The man — Fortico's inside contact — drops the act and confesses: he told a crew which cash trucks to hit, and he calls the guards' deaths necessary and the boy merely unfortunate. Then he makes H an offer.

What's really going on

Confession here is not remorse; it is a pitch. The man admits 'I tell them which trucks to hit,' then ranks the dead by convenience — the guards were 'necessary,' the boy was 'unfortunate' — as if casualties were line items. That cold accounting is the whole character. When he turns to H, he isn't begging for mercy; he is recruiting, offering to make H the new man on the inside so the crew can go for 'the jackpot' and 'walk away for good.' The line 'there are no bullets in your gun' tells us who really holds the leverage, and 'what's in it for me?' shows H is already bargaining. The deal they close is not friendship but mutual need.

Key lines & what they mean

“The two guards being killed was necessary.”
He treats the guards' deaths as an acceptable cost of the robbery, which is what makes the confession so chilling.
“So do as I say and you won't get hurt.”
A calm threat: obey, and you'll walk away unharmed — the offer is survival, not friendship.
“For starters, there are no bullets in your gun.”
The opening move in his negotiation: he reveals H's gun is empty, so resistance is pointless.
“I tell them which trucks to hit.”
The heart of the confession — he was the inside man, pointing the crew at the trucks worth robbing.

Theme

  • Betrayal — The inside man admits selling out his own colleagues and treats their deaths as the cost of business.
  • Corruption — Cash-truck robberies only work with someone paid on the inside, and the scene shows how casually that loyalty is bought.

Preguntas frecuentes

La pregunta, luego la frase
Why does the inside man confess so easily?

Because he isn't sorry — he's recruiting. Admitting what he did is his opening move in offering H a place in the crew, so he sees no reason to deny it.

Who is the inside man?

One of Fortico's own people. He fed a crew the schedule of which cash trucks to rob, and he treats the guards killed in those robberies as a cost of doing business.

Why does the boy's death matter to H?

The inside man calls the boy's death 'unfortunate,' but for H this is personal — the film links the boy directly to H's reason for being at Fortico.

What deal do they end up making?

The inside man wants one more big score — 'the jackpot' — and needs H to let the crew in and look the other way. H asks 'what's in it for me?' and the answer is blunt: 'your life.'

What does 'look the other way' mean here?

It means to pretend not to notice. In the deal, H would deliberately ignore the robbery instead of stopping it, effectively becoming the new inside man.
