Capítulo 4 de 10 · 3'40"
A packed fall party becomes a tour of who belongs. Trish is called "the goddess of the scene." A kid who "looks like a total nerd" is one of the most hard-core guys in the scene. Mark is not a punk, but all the tribes love him.
The Nerd Who Is Actually Hard-Core
❝ Monólogo · 15 frases Mark Shows Off What He Bought
❝ Monólogo · 7 frases Chaos, lightly dismissed
It first calls showing off a shared flaw and sets that part aside, then folds intimidation, snapping, and theft into Chaos in man, and only then calls it a little tiresome.
At their apartment, someone throws the first party of the fall. Bob is one of the hosts. Trish is the goddess of the scene, and everybody wants her. Mike looks like a total nerd but is hard-core. Mark is not a punk. He shows off a laser disc, a water bed with no waves, and a machine priced at five thousand bucks.
The introductions sort the room. Trish gets "Bohemian queen" and "the goddess of the scene," with the proof in the next sentence: "Everybody really wants her." The nerd line works the same way. "He looks like a total nerd" is only the setup. He is "one of the most hard-core guys in the scene," and, after "I'll be right back," the next line is "Punk rock!" Mark is called "nothing, really" and "not even a peer." The tribes still love him because he always had pot and acid. Being rich is separate: not because he was a pusher, but from insurance off a family plane crash. "he loved company" is why you sit through some bullshit if you wanted to score. The water bed "doesn't have any waves." He bought black "because it looks cooler." The machine is "Five thousand bucks." He fears "getting ripped off" and yet "ripped things off without shame or guilt." The line calls that chaos "a little tiresome."

Informal
Hey, this is Mark. Now, Mark is not a punk rocker. Why, he's nothing, really. He's not even a peer. But everybody knew him, and all the tribes love him... because he always had pot and acid. What this crazy foreign fuck was doing behind this Iron Curtain, I had no idea. I don't think anyone in Utah really knew... but we did know that he was rich, loaded with killer bud... and completely out of his fuckin' mind. Now, Mark was rich, but not because he was a pusher, which he really wasn't. He was independently wealthy. His whole family died in a plane crash over in Europe when he was five. The thing was, he liked to buy stuff and show it off. His bank account bulged from the insurance off the crash. So you'd have to sit through some bullshit if you wanted to score... because the one thing about Mark, he loved company.
It was a character flaw, sure, but we all have those. This part didn't concern me. The main problem with Mark... was that he was intimidating, and he had a tendency to snap. He was always afraid of getting ripped off... yet at the same time, he ripped things off without shame or guilt. Chaos in man, although hopeful... could also be, you know, a little tiresome.
Siguiente · 05stiff meLa escena: The Kitchen Plane Crash StoryHe says the kid is not a poser, then "He looks like a total nerd." The next line names him Mike. The line after that calls him "one of the most hard-core guys in the scene." He then says to watch and "I'll be right back." The next line is "You see what I mean? Punk rock!" The nerd look is the setup. That hard-core line is the rank.
Everybody knew him, and all the tribes love him, because he always had pot and acid. Rich is a different fact: not because he was a pusher, which he really wasn't, but independently wealthy, from the insurance off the crash. Loved company is only why you sit through some bullshit if you wanted to score.
Because the bed is one more thing bought for people to see. Earlier, he liked to buy stuff and show it off. Someone then asks why not buy a normal mattress that doesn't have waves. The reply is still "This one doesn't have waves," and he bought black "because it looks cooler."
The lines put both habits in one breath and do not give a motive. He was "always afraid of getting ripped off," yet "he ripped things off without shame or guilt." The next lines call that "Chaos in man" and then only "a little tiresome."
