Jeffrey Radios for Help
❝ Monólogo · 9 frases Frank Closes In on Jeffrey
Hiding in Dorothy Vallens' apartment, Jeffrey reaches Detective Williams on a police radio. He explains that Frank is on his way in a well-dressed-man disguise and that he has no way out, then moves to the back bedroom and begs the detective to hurry. Frank arrives, finds the radio, and starts taunting him.
The scene flips a boy playing detective into prey. Jeffrey has spent the film sneaking into other people's lives, and now the apartment he broke into becomes his trap; the radio that was supposed to bring help is exactly what gives him away. He keeps his voice calm for the detective — “I'm hiding in the back bedroom. Please hurry” — while outside the door Frank turns the search into a nursery game: “Here I come, ready or not.” Nothing in the room belongs to Jeffrey, and no one is coming fast enough, so the fear is doubled: he is both somewhere he should not be and nowhere he can escape. Frank's mocking “Hey, neighbor” underlines how ordinary the setting is and how close the violence has come.
